The Reckoning of Perimenopause
Perimenopause is a turning point … a time when you begin to question everything. And if you don’t choose to question, life has a way of making you. That’s why they call it a midlife crisis: the universe is trying to wake you up.
Divorce, job loss, the death of a parent, an empty nest, health issues… on the surface, these look like the reasons you’re struggling. But really, they’re just catalysts. Even if none of those things happen, the past will eventually creep in and wave hello. Childhood patterns, old wounds, stories you thought you’d left behind … they resurface.
And alongside that inner reckoning, the body shifts too. Hormones rage, creating more anxiety, more depression, restless nights of lost sleep. Your body is no longer what it once was … and that in itself can feel like grief. However, I believe it’s all part of the shedding process. The shedding of who we once were, so we can step into who we are becoming.
Unraveling the Stories
Midlife is an invitation to take off the mask … the one society told you to wear, the one that kept you acceptable, pleasing, safe.
It’s not just personal; it’s collective. We’ve been conditioned by culture, religion, family, and media about what it means to be a woman. What we should be. What we shouldn’t be. All the “good girl / bad girl” rules. All the silent contracts that said: smile, be agreeable, don’t take up too much space, stay pretty, be more, be less!
We grow up carrying this weight until, one day, it no longer fits. Instead of keeping us safe, it suffocates. Midlife is when the body, the mind, and the soul conspire to say: enough.
That’s when you hear the whisper: It’s time, my love.
The Call to Go Deep
It’s time to go into your heart. Into the part of you you’ve ignored or pushed aside. The part that’s been quietly waiting for you … whispering in the stillness of night when your mind is screaming. The part that holds the answers you’ve been searching for, even as the noise of the world drowns them out.
This essence … this inner source … is the most real, steady part of you. It’s not dramatic or loud. It doesn’t demand. It waits. Patiently. For you to pay attention.
And here’s the thing: it’s always been there. Every time you had a gut feeling, every time you knew deep down something wasn’t right, every time you longed for “more” when everything looked fine on the outside… that was it.
It’s not some far-off mystical thing. It’s the core of who you are, asking you to connect. Asking you to trust that the answers you’re searching for are already inside you.
And once you do connect, even in small ways, you realize this essence isn’t new. It’s you… the truest version of you… waiting to be heard.
The In-Between
Of course, it’s not easy. The world fights hard for your attention… social media, the news, ads selling you the lie of not enough. Not beautiful enough. Not successful enough. Not enough of anything.
So midlife becomes this strange in-between. You feel suspended between worlds: the person you were conditioned to be and the person you are becoming. It’s wobbly ground. You reach for what you know… the diet, the drink, the spiritual tools, the work out, the places, the people … but somehow, it no longer works.
Your old self clings to survival, but in truth, you’re no longer that person. And here’s the painful truth: the suffering comes from reaching back, from trying to hold onto what once helped you survive. That’s where the ache lives… in the staying, in the looking back.
But then the whisper inside calls again:
“Try this, my darling. Come to me. See what can be. See how you can thrive. Listen to me, and I will guide you.”
Answering the Call
And when you finally answer? Everything shifts.
Your creativity begins to flow in ways you never expected. Gratitude takes on a deeper, more embodied form. Your path may still be uncertain, but it feels infused with trust … a trust that your steps are guided, even when you can’t see the whole road.
Your intuition grows clearer. When things don’t work out, instead of collapsing, you ground into yourself. You begin to see yourself as a blessing. You feel rooted in your body, even while life continues to change around you.
And slowly, you find your way. The right people show up. The right opportunities unfold. You become clear enough to seek and receive the right help, the kind that truly supports this next chapter of your life.
It’s not always easy… in fact, sometimes it’s brutally hard. However, the more you connect to that essence within you, the greater the clarity you will have.
Life will always “get in the way.” But now, you have an anchor. A place inside you to reach for, again and again.
A Gentle Note
If you find yourself in this in-between… questioning, unraveling, shedding… know that you are not alone. Midlife isn’t here to break you; it’s here to wake you.
Sometimes it helps to have a witness. Someone to hold space while you peel back the masks, reconnect with your essence, and anchor into your truth. That’s the work I love to do… walking beside women as they discover that midlife is not the end, but the beginning of something extraordinary.
In Gratitude,
